Mission:
The
LMU Family of Schools (LMU FOS) is dedicated to transformation and
reform of public education in the Los Angeles region and beyond. By
putting the university at the heart of the community and engaging with
a myriad of stakeholder – teachers, students, parents, community, and
policy makers – we leverage the assets and capacity of communities to
create, support and sustain K-12 pipelines of success for all
students. We bring a particular focus on closing the achievement gaps
that exist in public education to create successful futures for all
students.
Focus:
The
LMU Family of Schools is initially focused on its partnership with the
seven (7) Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) schools in the
Westchester area. Five (5) of these schools are transitioning to a new
governance and decision-making structure, grounded in local
responsibility and authority for budget and instructional choices, with
support from the LMU FOS and the iDesign division of the LAUSD.
Through
a Memorandum of Understanding with LAUSD, LMU FOS works as Network
Partner in a technical assistance and support role for the five schools
transitioning to this new decision-making structure (Westchester High
School, Orville Wright Middle School, Cowan Elementary School, Kentwood
Elementary School, and Westport Heights Elementary School) providing
facilitation, leadership, and guidance in this process, as well as
specific deliverables in eleven specific programmatic areas. These
programmatic areas are divided into three broad categories of
Governance, Professional Development, and External Partnerships.
In
addition to the specific program focus areas, LMU FoS works to support
schools in emerging areas of need, as determined by school stakeholders.
